Carlos Acosta bids farewell to classical ballet with his final performances at Royal Albert Hall for a limited run from Monday 3 – Friday 7 October 2016. The Classical Farewell celebrates highlights from Acosta’s career which led him to become the most famous male dancer of his generation, and marks the final time for audiences to watch the ballet superstar dance classical works.

The production follows the popular format of his 2006 show Carlos Acosta with Guests of The Royal Ballet, for which he won an Olivier Award, andA Classical Selection which was performed at London Coliseum in December 2015 to critical acclaim. Acosta also embarks on a UK tour to Nottingham, Birmingham, Southampton and Salford in May 2016. The Royal Albert Hall programme for The Classical Farewell features an all new repertoire, to be announced shortly.

After an unparalleled career as one of the world’s foremost ballet stars, Carlos Acosta presents his final classical ballet programme.

From humble beginnings in Cuba to performing on some of the world’s biggest stages, Carlos Acosta has had an incredible career. He has played many of ballet’s most iconic roles including Prince Siegfried inSwan Lake, Basilio in Don Quixote and The Prince in Nutcracker. He has worked with leading international ballet companies including National Ballet of Cuba, The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet and Houston Ballet, written two novels and appeared in two feature films.

For his final dancing classical works, he performs excerpts from his favourite ballet repertoire alongside an incredible cast of dancers from Cuba.

Sadler’s Wells and Valid Productions presents world renowned dancer Carlos Acosta’s A Classical Farewell, at the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham (Tuesday 3 & Wednesday 4 May), Birmingham Hippodrome (Friday 6 & Saturday 7 May), part of the award-winning International Dance Festival Birmingham 2016, Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (Tuesday 10 & Wednesday 11 May) and The Lowry, Salford (Friday 13 & Saturday 14 May).

Following his performances at the London Coliseum from Tuesday 8 – Saturday 13 December 2015 Carlos will take his popular format programme featuring a new selection of classical works across the UK in celebration of twenty-six years as a professional dancer on the international stage. This marks the last opportunity for regional audiences to see him dance classical ballet repertoire.

Carlos Acosta has thrilled audiences throughout the world with his breathtaking performances. For A Classical Farewell Carlos has put together a programme with guest artists from Cuba, presenting some of his favourite pieces from the classical repertoire. The evening’s programme is accompanied by the Manchester Camerata conducted by Paul Murphy at selected venues.

The performance includes a number of the most famous pas de deux from the classical and neo-classical canon. Extracts performed includeKenneth MacMillan’s Winter Dreams, Michel Fokine’s Dying Swan, August Bournonville’s La Sylphide, Diana & Acteon by Agrippina Vaganova.

Also part of the evening’s programme are extracts from Nisi Dominus by William Tuckett and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake featuring choreography by Marius Petipa.

One of the most famous and recognisable ballet stars in the world, Carlos Acosta has played many of ballet’s most iconic roles and worked with numerous leading international ballet companies. Performing in Abu Dhabi for the first time, he will dance to excerpts from his favourite classical repertoire alongside an outstanding company of dancers.

April 8th-13th, 16th & 17th 2016

The worldwide famous Cuban choreographer and dancer Carlos Acosta, first figure of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, of North American and Italian companies, and last but not least of the Royal Theatre Ballet, is coming to Cuba, now accompanied by his just formed group “Acosta Danza”, with which he wants “to show the Cuban talent”.

The Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso is getting ready to receive the first international performance of the group on April 8th and 9th. This first show will be called Premiére. The 25 dancers of Acosta Danza arrive with new proposals, and with the purpose of breaking with the aesthetics of the traditional ballet. Contemporary and classical choreographies will be performed, like “Majísimo”, “Fauno”, “De punta a cabo”, and classics “Lago de los Cisnes”, and “Carmen”, this last with a version of Acosta himself, based on the novel with the same name by Prosper Mérime, and with music by George Bizet.

April shines with the spring, and The Gran Teatro shows its best with a performance you can’t miss for any reason. Nothing better for ballet lovers than the virtuous Carlos Acosta coming back to the Cuban sceneries.

The performance features some of his favourite pieces from the classical repertoire, including extracts of Vaganova’s Diana & Acteon, Bournonville’s La Sylphide, MacMillan’s Winter Dreams and Balanchine’s Agon. These performances, his last classical ballet shows at the London Coliseum – home to many of his greatest triumphs, will give audiences the chance to see Carlos perform alongside guests from The Royal Ballet.

Joining Carlos on stage are Marianela Núñez, Zenaida Yanowsky, Yuhui Choe, Tierney Heap, Anna Rose O’Sullivan, Thiago Soares, Valeri Hristov and Nehemiah Kish. They will be accompanied by the ENO Orchestra, conducted by Paul Murphy.

Ballet returns to the Palau de les Arts in the hands of Carlos Acosta and The Royal Ballet. The Cuban dancer, one of the world’s finest dancers and hailed by the press as the “successor of Nureyev” and the “new Nijinski” together with the UK’s finest Ballet company, Covent Garden’s The Royal Ballet will present a show with choreography by Robbins, Stevenson, MacMillan and Balanchine. In the pit, Paul Murphy, musical director of the Royal Ballet of Birmingham, will conduct the Orquestra of the Comunitat Valenciana.
